Every year we hear from parents concerned with their child’s academic progress:

  • “My child is intelligent and has the potential to get far ahead with Science and Maths – but I fear they are being held back at school.”
  • “My child’s teacher is not providing enough practice homework over the weekend and I don’t know enough about the content to give appropriate help.”
  • “My child says that they are doing their homework online, but I’m worried they get distracted and are browsing the internet, wasting precious time at this age.”

At LST we have a team of tutors and teachers dedicated to developing resources to help children aged 11-13 improve their Science and Maths.

Building on our cumulative experience, we have developed a deep understanding of the learning process at these ages, as well as the most effective ways to improve academic performance and prepare children for their entrance exams and beyond.

We understand that performance at this stage is vital to future progress. Our Common Entrance resources are developed for:

  • Intelligent children aged 11-13,
  • Who are not receiving adequate support from their school
  • And want to improve their Science and Maths beyond the classroom.

We have found the greatest problems faced by these children are:

  • Their natural ability is not identified, nurtured and developed,
  • They are bored and become distracted in class due to being forced to work at a fixed pace,
  • They are unexcited by the dry teaching of Science and Maths.

From our experience, we have found that the following teaching framework works well with these children:

  • A progressive and structured approach to content learning
  • Regular “open book” homework and “closed book” testing
  • Key topic identification for additional focussed reinforcement or stretching beyond the syllabus
